What it means
A ceramic basin is a basin made from clay that has been shaped, fired at high heat, and finished with a glassy glaze. The firing makes the body hard and rigid; the glaze seals the surface so water, soap, and toothpaste sit on top rather than soaking in. The result is a basin that keeps its finish through years of daily use and wipes clean with nothing more than a soft cloth.
Ceramic has been the default material for bathroom basins for a long time, and for a simple reason: it is dense, non-porous, and does not mind being wet all day. Unlike timber or engineered boards, it needs no sealing or special care in a humid bathroom.
In practice you will usually meet a ceramic basin as part of a vanity set, either set into the cabinet top or sitting on it, with a mixer tap fitted alongside.
