What it means

Soft-close is a small mechanism built into a drawer runner or a hinge. As the drawer or door nears the frame, the mechanism catches it and slows the last few centimetres of travel, so it settles shut gently instead of banging. You push the drawer as you normally would, take your hand away, and it finishes closing on its own.

The benefit is partly about quiet and partly about wear. A drawer that slams puts repeated shock through the joints, hinges, and whatever is inside it. Soft-close removes that impact, which is easier on the cabinet and on the contents. On a vanity, it also means glass bottles and skincare do not rattle every time the drawer shuts.

You will see the same idea described as soft-close on the drawers of a vanity and on the doors of a tall side column cabinet. It is a comfort feature that has quietly become the expected standard on good bathroom storage.

In a Singapore home

In a compact HDB or condo bathroom, drawers get opened and shut many times a day, often in a shared or early-morning setting where a slamming drawer is the last thing anyone wants. Soft-close keeps that daily routine quiet, which matters more in a small flat than most people expect.

Soft-close drawers are standard on every HERA vanity set, across both the 40 series and the 46 series, so it is not a paid upgrade. Each vanity drawer is rated for up to 30kg of static load, and the soft-close action continues to work smoothly however heavily the drawer is packed with bottles, hair tools, and toiletries. The mechanism, together with the hinges and the solid PVC body, is covered by the 1-year HERA vanity warranty. You can see how it feels across the full range on the vanity and storage guide.

The whole range is on display at the MacPherson showroom, where you can open the drawers yourself before deciding on a size and finish.

Quick questions
