What it means
Cut and seal describes a bathtub shape that is made to sit flush against a wall or into a corner, wall to wall, with the join sealed so there is no awkward gap behind the tub. The result looks tailored to the room, the way a built-in tub does, without any of the construction.
That is the key distinction. A built-in bathtub is constructed into the room and can only be added or removed through renovation. A cut and seal tub is still a freestanding bathtub: it stands on its own, arrives finished on the sides that face the room, and nothing about it is cemented or tiled in place.
Because the visible sides are finished panels running from the rim to the floor, much like an apron on a traditional tub, the bathtub presents a clean face to the room while tucking neatly against the wall behind it.
